Romford Car Workshop Fire Destroys Half the Building – Cause Under Investigation
A large fire has ripped through a car repair workshop in Romford, destroying half of the single-storey building and prompting a major response from London Fire Brigade (LFB) and Essex County Fire and Rescue.
The fire broke out just before 6pm on Faringdon Avenue, with LFB’s 999 Control officers receiving 45 emergency calls from the public reporting smoke and flames.
70 Firefighters Called to the Scene
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were dispatched to the scene from multiple fire stations, including Harold Hill, Romford, Hornchurch, Ilford, Dagenham, and Woodford. Several fire engines from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service also responded to support the London-based crews.
The blaze was brought under control at 7.51pm, after nearly two hours of firefighting operations.
Half the Building Destroyed
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade confirmed:
“Half of a single-storey car workshop was destroyed by the fire. The cause is currently under investigation.”
Images and videos shared by witnesses showed thick black smoke billowing into the evening sky as crews tackled the flames with hoses and aerial ladders.
Injuries Not Yet Confirmed
As of Friday evening, no injuries had been officially reported, but emergency services have not ruled out the possibility. The extent of the damage to nearby properties and vehicles is also being assessed.
Public Advised to Avoid the Area
Residents and motorists were advised to avoid the area as fire crews worked at the scene and roads in the immediate vicinity were partially closed for safety.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and fire investigators will return to the scene to carry out a full assessment.
