Three people have been taken to hospital following a serious four-vehicle collision involving an overturned lorry on the M25 anticlockwise between Junctions 29 (Romford/A127) and 28 (Brentwood/A12) this afternoon.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:15pm on Tuesday, 17 June, prompting a major emergency response. Paramedics, firefighters, and an air ambulance were deployed to the scene.
Emergency Services Respond Swiftly
A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said:
“We were called at 2:15pm to a road traffic collision on the anti-clockwise M25 between junctions 29 and 28. Three ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.
Two patients were transported by road to Basildon University Hospital, and one to Queen’s Hospital.”
Firefighters Assist in Rescue
Crews from Essex County Fire & Rescue Service and the London Fire Brigade (LFB) attended the crash site.
A casualty had to be rescued by firefighters, although no one was confirmed to be trapped, the LFB confirmed.
“We were called at 14:26 to reports of a road traffic collision involving four vehicles, including an overturned lorry,” said an LFB spokesperson.
“We sent one fire engine and one fire rescue unit, supported by Essex Fire and Rescue.”
Severe Traffic Disruption
The crash forced the closure of the anticlockwise carriageway, with miles of queues reported on approach. Traffic was also affected on the clockwise side, where the air ambulance landed.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area and follow the Hollow Square diversion route issued by National Highways.
