TfL Issues Warning Over Rule-Breaking at Gallows Corner Flyover Amid Full Closure

Transport for London (TfL) has issued a stern warning to motorists ignoring road signs and breaching the “vital rules” in place during the complete closure of the Gallows Corner roundabout and flyover.

The key junction in Romford was fully shut at 9pm on Monday, 23 June, with access restricted to black cabs, buses, and emergency vehicles only. The closure, part of a major infrastructure upgrade, immediately caused serious delays during the Tuesday morning commute, as drivers adjusted to new diversions.

Despite clear signage, TfL says some drivers are disregarding restrictions, prompting concerns over safety for both motorists and workers on site.

TfL: “Follow the Rules – Or Face Enforcement”

A TfL spokesperson said:

“For the safety of everyone using the road network and people working on this project, drivers must follow instructions on road signs.

Enforcement action could be taken against drivers who do not follow these vital rules.”

While TfL has not specified the exact form of enforcement, CCTV signage has been spotted on roads approaching the closure zone, indicating monitoring is in place. Fines or penalties may be applied to rule-breakers.

Delays and Diversions

The Gallows Corner closure is expected to remain in place for several months, with significant travel disruption anticipated. Alternative routes are clearly marked, and residents are being encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.

Public Safety Comes First

The flyover has long been marked for safety concerns and structural repairs. TfL says the closure is essential to carry out the long-overdue upgrade safely and effectively.

Motorists are reminded to:

  • Follow all posted signage and diversion instructions
  • Avoid unauthorised entry, especially during restricted hours
  • Report safety concerns to TfL or police
