Two Men Stabbed in Manchester City Centre – One in Critical Condition

Two men have been hospitalised with stab wounds following a violent disturbance in Manchester city centre in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to Piccadilly Gardens just after midnight after reports of a group disturbance involving weapons.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two men—one in his 20s, the other in his 30s—suffering from stab injuries.


One Victim Critical

Both victims were transported to hospital. GMP confirmed that:

No arrests have been made as of Thursday morning, and detectives are working to establish the full circumstances behind the incident.


Section 60 Order in Place

To support the investigation and prevent further violence, a Section 60 order was implemented at 12.53am within the Manchester inner ring road.

The order gives officers enhanced stop-and-search powers and covers:

  • Great Ancoats Street to Trinity Way
  • Irwell Street to New Quay Street

It will remain in force until early Friday morning.


Increased Police Patrols

Chief Inspector Rob MacGregor said:

“There will be a significant presence of officers, particularly on foot patrol, in the city centre today.

If you have any concerns or any information, then please speak to those officers who are there to reassure and respond to any queries.”
