Toddler Dies After Emergency Services Called to Sheffield Home
A one-year-old girl has tragically died after emergency services were called to a property in Sheffield on Wednesday evening amid reports of concern for a child.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed that officers were alerted by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to an incident at a house on Overend Way shortly after receiving a call at around 7pm on Wednesday, 2 July.
Paramedics attended the scene and the toddler was rushed to hospital by ambulance. Despite the efforts of medical teams, she sadly died a short time later.
A police spokesperson said:
“Last night, Wednesday 2 July, we received a call from Yorkshire Ambulance Service alerting us to a concern for a child at a property on Overend Way in Sheffield.
Officers responded and a one-year-old child was taken to hospital by ambulance, where she sadly later died.
Officers are working to ascertain the circumstances that led to the child’s death and our investigation remains ongoing.”
The area surrounding the home is understood to have been cordoned off on Wednesday evening while enquiries were conducted. No arrests have been confirmed at this time.
The child’s death is currently being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place in due course.
South Yorkshire Police are urging anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward.
