During his trial, the court heard how Andmichaen launched a violent and prolonged attack on Ms Bereket. The judge described the murder as “a sustained and cruel assault on a defenceless woman and her unborn child.”

A Prison Service spokesperson said:

“HMP Full Sutton prisoner Filmon Andmichaen died in custody in July 2025. As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will carry out an independent investigation.”

The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) will now investigate the circumstances surrounding Andmichaen’s death, which is standard protocol for all deaths in custody.
