Police have confirmed that the death of a woman who fell from a bridge over the North Circular in Chingford is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were called at around 8.46pm on Thursday, August 14, following reports that a woman had fallen from a bridge on the A406 North Circular.

Despite the efforts of the London Ambulance Service, the woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Police statement

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said:

“Her death is not being treated as suspicious at this time. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Ambulance service response

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed crews had attended:

“We were called at 8.46pm on 14 August to reports of a person who had fallen from a bridge on the A406, Chingford.
We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer to the scene. Sadly a person had died at the scene.”

Traffic disruption

The incident caused major tailbacks and delays on the busy North Circular as emergency crews responded and officers carried out initial enquiries, including door-to-door checks.

The woman has not yet been formally identified, and the coroner will now lead the investigation into the circumstances of her death.
