Police Scotland in Newcraighall are appealing for information following the theft of a large oil painting from the Quarry Cottages area. The incident occurred between 13.00 and 17.00 on Saturday, September 30, 2023, leaving the owner devastated and authorities eager to locate the stolen artwork.

The stolen painting is a striking portrait of Lord Nelson, encased in an ornate gold frame. Measuring 1.4 metres by 1.4 metres, the artwork holds significant historical and monetary value, estimated to be in the five-figure range. The owner had placed the painting outside their property temporarily while renovation work was underway, with the intention of safeguarding it from potential damage.

Police Constable Richard Bradley expressed concern over the theft, stating, “This is a large painting that was placed outside as work was being done within a property, and the owner wanted to protect it from damage.” The significance of the artwork and its considerable value make its theft all the more distressing for the owner.

Law enforcement authorities are urging anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the Quarry Cottages area during the specified timeframe or who has information about the stolen painting’s whereabouts to come forward.

Individuals with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3572 of Saturday, September 30, 2023. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be provided to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
