According to the country’s National Institute for Biomedical Research, a new case of Ebola virus infection has been confirmed in city/" title="The City" rel="nofollow">the city of Beni in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
On Monday, the announcement was made.
The World Health Organization had reported two days earlier that authorities were investigating a suspected case in Beni following the death of a 46-year-old woman who had displayed symptoms consistent with the disease.
The case was linked to the 2018-2020 outbreak in North Kivu province, which killed nearly 2,300 people, according to genetic sequencing, the institute said in a statement.
Ebola can sometimes linger in survivors’ eyes, central nervous systems, and bodily fluids for years before resurfacing.
The dense tropical forests of Congo are a natural reservoir for the Ebola virus, which causes fever, muscle aches, and diarrhoea.
There have been 14 outbreaks in the country since 1976.
