Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses after a fatal hit-and-run collision in Brixton.
Emergency services were called at 6.49pm on Tuesday, 1 October 2024, following reports of a collision involving a tow truck and a pedestrian on Brixton Road, near the junction with Handforth Road, SW9.
Incident Details
The pedestrian, identified as Safia Ali, a woman in her 50s, was initially struck by a tow truck that failed to stop at the scene. Moments later, she was hit again by a car, whose driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Despite the efforts of London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, Ms. Ali was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are receiving specialist support from police officers.
Investigation and Appeal
A man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been bailed pending further inquiries.
Police are now urging witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward to help with their investigation.
