Paul Doyle, 53, of Croxteth, Liverpool, is accused of deliberately driving his Ford Galaxy into large groups of fans gathered to celebrate the club’s Premier League victory on 26 May. The incident left more than 130 people injured, including children.

Doyle had initially been charged with:

  • Two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent
  • Two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent
  • One count of dangerous driving

At Liverpool Crown Court today, prosecutors announced 23 new charges of assault and one of affray. Six of the assault charges relate to children, including a six-month-old baby and a seven-month-old baby.

Doyle appeared via video link from prison for the short, 20-minute hearing, and was reported to be in tears. He did not enter any pleas.

The case has been adjourned until 4 September, when Doyle is expected to enter his pleas.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, with police continuing to appeal for witnesses and any further video evidence.
