A woman has been arrested following a terrifying multi-vehicle crash on the M1 that left four people injured, including one woman who had to be airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

The smash happened at around 4.40pm on Friday, May 2, near Junction 5 close to Watford, causing absolute carnage on one of Britain’s busiest motorways.

Five vehicles — including a white Ford Fiesta, a skip loader, a blue Mini Cooper, a black Ford Focus, and a black Volvo XC90 — were caught up in the pile-up, according to police.

Woman Driver Arrested

The woman behind the wheel of the Ford Fiesta has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, police confirmed today.

Emergency services raced to the scene in huge numbers, with motorists reporting at least six fire engines, five ambulances, and over ten police vehicles attending the crash site.

The southbound side of the M1 was completely blocked for hours, causing massive tailbacks and chaos for Bank Holiday travellers.

Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward

Sergeant David McIlwhan from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit said:
“The road was busy at the time and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to please make contact. If you have dash cam footage that you believe could be helpful to our investigation, please upload this at: https:///orlo.uk/KPu0Z

The investigation remains ongoing as officers piece together the circumstances leading up to the crash.
