A serious collision has forced the closure of the M4 eastbound between Junction 13 (Chieveley Interchange – Newbury, Oxford A34) and Junction 12 (Theale Interchange – Reading (W) A4).

Emergency services, including Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance Service, Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue, and National Highways Traffic Officers, remain at the scene. The road is expected to stay closed for an extended period while collision investigators carry out a complex examination.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area or expect significant delays. National Highways has put a diversion in place, signposted with the Hollow Circle symbol:

  • Exit the M4 at J13 and take the A34 southbound towards Newbury.

  • At the A34/A339 interchange, follow the A339 for around 2.5 miles to Newbury.

  • At the A339/A4 roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the A4 London Road.

  • Follow the A4 for approximately 12.5 miles, then take the 3rd exit at the roundabout to rejoin the M4 eastbound.

Drivers are advised to allow extra journey time and consider delaying travel.
