A fatal collision involving a high-powered motorcycle has closed a major arterial road linking Kent and Sussex, with Highways England  confirming a full Police forensic investigation is under way.

The incident happened at around 9:00pm on Tuesday, 12 August 2025 on the A2070 between the M20 (Junction 10) and the A2042 near Ashford. Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit has launched an inquiry into the cause of the crash.

 


 

Rider Pronounced Dead at the Scene

 

Despite efforts by paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service and attending police officers, bystanders report the motorcyclist died at the scene. Witnesses said the bike was found a significant distance from the point of impact.

A Volkswagen camper van  and a dark coloured vehicle are seen within the inner cordon, though it is not yet confirmed what roles these played in the collision.

Road Closed in Both Directions

The A2070 remains shut in both directions while crash scene investigators carry out detailed examinations.

The closure is expected to last for several hours, compounded by ongoing roadworks in the area that had already introduced diversion routes for improvement works.

The situation has caused what local residents described as a “total lockdown” for traffic between Kent and Sussex.

Diversions in Place
Southbound diversion (Hollow Triangle signs):

Exit the M20 at J10 onto the A292 towards Ashford town centre.

Turn into Wellesley Road, merging into Station Road and then Beaver Road (A2042).

At the Romney Marsh Road/Bad Münstereifel Road roundabout, take the eastbound Bad Münstereifel Road to rejoin the A2070 at the Cloverleaf interchange.

Northbound diversion (Hollow Diamond signs):

Turn at the Cloverleaf interchange back onto the A2042 towards Ashford town centre, then follow the reverse of the southbound route.

Police Appeal
Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service have been approached for official statements. Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has relevant dashcam footage, is urged to contact Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit via 101, quoting the reference to be provided in their forthcoming appeal.
