Major Ten-Pump Fire Breaks Out at Darent Industrial Park in Erith – Explosions Reported

A major industrial fire has broken out at  Maypole Crescent, within Darent Industrial Park, Erith, prompting a ten-pump response from the London Fire Brigade. Reports from the scene indicate multiple explosions and the presence of gas cylinders, with emergency services treating the incident as a high-risk blaze.

The fire was reported at 10.45pm on Friday evening, with firefighters from across southeast London being dispatched. A hose layer a turntable ladder (TL), and command units have been dispatched to the ongoing  operation.

Explosions and Road Closures

Witnesses have reported a series of loud explosions, with significant flames and smoke visible across the Erith Marshes area. The road around Maypole Crescent has been closed in both directions, and residents are being urged to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke hazard.

 

 


Local social media accounts described the fire as “lighting up the night sky” with “lots of things exploding.”

Firefighters Battling Intense Blaze

More than 150 firefighters are believed to be on scene, working to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent units. The presence of pressurised gas cylinders has elevated the risk level and prompted a cautious containment strategy by the fire service.

There are no confirmed reports of injuries at this stage.

Ongoing Incident

The fire service has classified the blaze as a major incident, with crews expected to remain on scene well into the morning.

London Fire Brigade and Met Police are yet to issue official statements, but updates are expected shortly.

Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters are tackling a fire at an industrial estate on Maypole Crescent in Erith.

A warehouse is currently alight, along with a crane and several vehicles.

Local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed where possible due to smoke being produced.

The Brigade’s Control Officers took the first of six calls to the fire at 2247 and mobilised crews from Bexley, Erith, Plumstead, East Greenwich, Sidcup and surrounding fire stations to the scene.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
