PC Lewis Rollins, an officer attached to the Metropolitan Police’s Central West Command Unit, has been found guilty of assault by beating following a trial at Southwark Crown Court.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 18 May, when officers received a report of an assault inside a residential property in Balham. Rollins, who was off-duty at the time, initially attempted to lie about his identity when arrested. He was later charged and subsequently suspended from duty.

Court Verdict and Sentencing

At the trial on Wednesday, 20 November, Rollins was convicted of assaulting a woman. However, he was found not guilty of intentional suffocation and actual bodily harm in relation to a separate victim.

Rollins is scheduled to be sentenced in March 2025.

Statement from Senior Police Leadership

Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah, who oversees policing in the Central West area, condemned Rollins’ actions, stating:
“PC Rollins’ actions are completely unacceptable and at odds with the Met’s values. I commend the women who have demonstrated extreme strength and bravery throughout this investigation.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has confirmed that a misconduct investigation into PC Rollins’ actions is ongoing.

Rebuilding Public Trust

This case is the latest in a series of high-profile incidents involving police misconduct, further highlighting the importance of accountability within the force.

The Metropolitan Police encourages anyone with concerns about the conduct of its officers to come forward, assuring the public that allegations will be thoroughly investigated.
