Officers have expressed their frustration after yobs caused damage in Leigh town centre during the early hours of Sunday morning (April 27).
While patrolling the area, police discovered that several planters had been destroyed, leaving debris scattered across parts of the town centre. The mindless act of vandalism has been strongly condemned by officers, who described the behaviour as “extremely disappointing.”
Greater Manchester Police said patrols had been stepped up in the area to deter anti-social behaviour and reassure the local community. They are also reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to identify those responsible.
A spokesperson for GMP said: “It is extremely disappointing to see acts of mindless vandalism such as this. These planters were there to enhance the environment for everyone who visits Leigh. We will be working hard to find those responsible and take appropriate action.”
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the damage being caused or who has any information to come forward by contacting 101, quoting incident reference 27/04/25.
Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
