Country Living has unveiled a list of the best UK places to enjoy the fiery hues of autumn – and London‘s own england/Richmondrichmond/”>Richmond park/”>Park made the cut.
“We’ve rounded up the wonderful places in the UK to see the blazing colours of autumn in 2025,” the magazine said, highlighting Richmond Park as a must-visit.
Why Richmond Park Is London’s Autumn Oasis
Country Living praised Richmond Park for its stunning natural beauty: “From ancient trees to birds, beetles, bats, grasses, wildflowers and deer, Richmond Park is the best place for Londoners to flock to during autumn.”
The vast park is famed for rolling hills, tranquil wildlife, and herds of deer roaming freely. Often described as an “oasis” in the capital, it’s one of London’s most treasured Greengreen spaces.
The park dates back to 1625, when King Charles I turned the area into his private hunting ground while escaping the London plague. Red and fallow deer were introduced then and still thrive today.
Wildlife and Woodland Wonders
Today, Richmond Park is open to the public and home to rare wildlife including stag beetles, bats, moths, and a 600-strong herd of red and fallow deer.
Centuries of deer grazing have shaped The Parkthe park’s wild landscape across 40 acres, creating a natural, ever-changing canvas of autumn colours.
“A very beautiful park with wild animals, beautiful landscapes and a relaxing environment,” a recent TripAdvisor reviewer said. Another added: “Superb oasis of trees, fields, streams, lakes, wildlife, birds and delightful deer. It’s breathtaking and truly beautiful.”
Plan Your Visit: Opening Hours and Deer Culls
Richmond Park’s pedestrian gates are open 24/7 — except during deer culls from November to early December and February to early March.
During these periods, doors open at 7.30am and shut at 8pm, so plan accordingly to enjoy this autumnal haven.
