Jake Hill, 25, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Michael Riddiough-Allen, a rugby player who stepped in to stop him from stabbing people outside the Eclipse nightclub in Bodmin, Cornwall.

Last April, Hill went on a rampage, attacking five individuals with a serrated hunting knife in a 20-second frenzy of violence. Michael Riddiough-Allen, 32, intervened to try and disarm Hill but was fatally stabbed in the stomach.

Described as a “gentle giant” by his sister Becky Dustan, Michael’s death has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew him. His family shared their heartbreak, stating that the vision of Michael being beaten in his last moments haunts them.

During the trial at Truro Crown Court, Hill was found guilty of murder and four counts of wounding with intent. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison. Additionally, Tia Taylor, 22, received a three-year prison sentence for manslaughter and perverting the course of justice, while Chelsea Powell, 23, was jailed for 15 months for perverting the course of justice.

Aside from Mr Riddiough-Allen, Hill also attacked Liam Phillips, Ryan Burger, Ryan Parsons, Rhiannon Tompsett, and Stefan Williams, leaving them with knife wounds.

Victim Liam Phillips recounted the harrowing experience, describing how he thought he was dying after being stabbed in the abdomen. He emphasized the emotional and physical impact of the incident, stating that the memories continue to affect him.

Mrs Justice Cutts, in her sentencing remarks, highlighted Hill’s lack of remorse and the profound loss caused by Michael’s murder. She echoed the sentiments of Michael’s family, emphasizing that there were no winners in this tragic event.

Following the verdict, Michael’s family expressed their gratitude for the justice system but stressed that it was not a victory. They highlighted the growing problem of knife crime in society and hoped to make a difference in the memory of Michael.

Detective Inspector Rosson praised the investigation team and thanked Michael’s family and the surviving victims for their support throughout the challenging investigation. He expressed hope that the conclusion of the case would bring some closure to the affected individuals.
