Critical Incident Declared After Moped Rider Suffers Life-Changing Injuries in Blackwall Tunnel Approach Crash
A critical incident has been declared following a serious road traffic collision on the Blackwall Tunnel approach in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after midnight after a moped rider collided with the central reservation and road furniture near the approach from the Blackheath and Shooters Hill area.

According to sources at the scene, the rider suffered life-changing injuries, prompting a full-scale response from specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with officers currently working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. It is not yet known whether any other vehicles were involved or whether any stopped at the scene.

The southbound Blackwall Tunnel approach remains closed as forensic collision investigators continue their work at the scene. The closure is causing significant delays in the surrounding area.
A source for the Metropolitan Police confirmed:
“We are investigating a serious collision involving a moped on the A102 Blackwall Tunnel approach. One person has sustained life-changing injuries. Road closures remain in place and drivers are advised to avoid the area where possible.”
