A man has been disqualified from driving after a concerned motorist alerted police to his erratic behaviour on the M25 — leading to the discovery he was drink driving and disqualified.

Airidas Vasiliauskas, 32, from Boston, Lincolnshire, was spotted driving a white Vauxhall Insignia erratically on April 5 near Junction 10 (Wisley). Alarmed by his dangerous driving, a member of the public reported him to police.

Officers from Surrey Police responded quickly, stopping Vasiliauskas on the northbound A3 at Painshill. A roadside breath test confirmed he was over the limit, recording 80 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breathmore than twice the legal limit.

Further Offences Uncovered

Further checks revealed Vasiliauskas was already disqualified from driving until December 2026, and the car he was driving was registered and insured to someone else. He was subsequently arrested for drink driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, and contravening a solid white line on a motorway.

The Vauxhall Insignia was seized under Section 165A of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

Court Sentencing

At Staines MagistratesCourt on April 7, Vasiliauskas was sentenced to:

  • Eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months
  • 80 hours of unpaid work
  • Payment of £85 court costs and a £154 victim surcharge
  • Further disqualification from driving

Police Praise Public Action

PC Robert Hall, who investigated the case, praised the public’s vigilance, saying:

“The fact that we have another drink driver off our roads is thanks to the member of the public who brought Vasiliauskas’ erratic driving to our attention.
This case demonstrates that we do take action when concerns are reported to us, and we urge the public to continue doing so.”

He added:

“Thankfully, Vasiliauskas’ irresponsible and dangerous driving did not have more serious consequences. Drink driving is one of the Fatal 5 offences, and we target it as a matter of priority to keep our roads safe.”
