A man and a woman have been charged with murder following the death of a 14-year-old girl in Darlington, Durham Constabulary has confirmed.
Emergency services were called to an address on Geneva Road shortly after 11pm on Friday. Despite their efforts, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Simon Vickers and Sarah Hall, both residents of Geneva Road, Darlington, have been charged with murder. They are scheduled to appear before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Detective Superintendent Craig Rudd stated, “Investigative work is still being carried out at the scene. I would like to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation and to reassure residents that we believe this to be an isolated incident.
The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
The tragic incident has shocked the local community, and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
