A man has been taken to hospital following a serious collision involving a coach and a pedestrian on Abingdon Street, just yards from the Houses of Parliament.
Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 1:30pm on Wednesday, 11 June, after reports of a crash outside Dean’s Yard. The Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, London’s Air Ambulance, and the London Fire Brigade all attended.
A man was treated at the scene for a head injury and later transported by road to a major trauma centre. Police have since confirmed that the injuries sustained are not life-threatening or life-changing.
Abingdon Street closed for hours
Abingdon Street was shut in both directions from Parliament Square to Great Peter Street, causing significant congestion and impacting multiple bus routes. Among those diverted were the 3, 87, and C10 services.
Investigations were carried out at the scene by collision specialists, with cordons lifted by early evening.
Second incident: Whitehall cordoned off
In a separate but nearby incident, officers cordoned off part of Whitehall near Downing Street after an abandoned vehicle raised concerns. This led to the closure of several bus routes including the 12, 24, and 26, as well as temporary exit closures at Westminster underground station.
The Met Police later confirmed the Whitehall incident was precautionary and not linked to the Abingdon Street crash. The area was reopened around 4:20pm.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said:
“Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a coach and a pedestrian at 13:29hrs on Wednesday, 11 June on Abingdon Street, Westminster.
Officers, the London Ambulance Service, London’s Air Ambulance, and the London Fire Brigade attended and a man was taken to hospital.
No arrests have been made. Road closures were put in place during the investigation.”

“We were called at 1.29pm to reports of a road traffic collision on Dean’s Yard, SW1P.
We sent an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer, and a clinical team manager, alongside London’s Air Ambulance.
We treated a man for a head injury and took him to a major trauma centre by road.”
