Police officers in Romford gave Chasechase to an 18-year-old man brandishing a machete on Thursday, September 18. The dramatic pursuit saw the suspect ditch the weapon in a garden before being caught moments later.
Quick-Thinking Cops Recover Weapon
Officers on patrol in england/romford-Towntown/”>Romford Town Centre spotted the man in Oldchurch Gardens around 1.55pm. When he tried to flee, they gave chase and witnessed him toss the machete into a nearby garden. The blade was promptly recovered, and the suspect was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.
Court Appearances Set
The 18-year-old faced Barkingside Magistrates Court the next day, September 19. He is scheduled to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court next month to face further charges.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers attempted to stop a man in Oldchurch Gardens, Romford, and he made off. He was pursued and detained a short distance away. During the pursuit, officers saw the man discard a machete into a garden, which was recovered.”
